As with most of you out there we here at Skycomm have been thinking will Microsoft keep this a free upgrade for devices running Windows 7 and 8.1 after the July 29 deadline? Looks like the answer to that is no.
A post over at Neowin have posted an article where Microsoft have published an answer to that exact question.
Today, Microsoft answered that question [emphasis ours]:
The free upgrade offer to Windows 10 was a first for Microsoft, helping people upgrade faster than ever before. And time is running out. The free upgrade offer will end on July 29 and we want to make sure you don’t miss out.
With confirmation that the free upgrade offer will indeed end after its first year, that raises the question of how Windows 10 upgrades will be priced for those who miss out. Microsoft answered that one too:
After July 29th, you’ll be able to continue to get Windows 10 on a new device, or purchase a full version of Windows 10 Home for $119.
So to all our clients out there i would be starting to get some time booked in to start upgrading the machines in your network.
I get asked a few questions a lot most of which is “why should i upgrade what dose it do for me”
- Security windows 10 is ALOT more secure with less expiots then 7 meaning less downtime
